SELKIRK COLLEGE AND BCIT ENTER PARTNERSHIP

A new partnership between Selkirk College and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) will help students with hands-on application of their skills and knowledge.
The two post-secondary institutions have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at collaboration and building on success at both schools.
“We are pleased to be working with Selkirk College on projects that will benefit our students, faculty, and business partners,” says Paul Dangerfield, BCIT’s Vice President of Education, Research and International. “Together we will maximize our unique individual strengths to increase our impact in delivering innovative education and applied research solutions.”
The agreement will provide local education and training opportunities for high demand occupations. The applied research initiatives in the MOU will support local business and industry, providing valuable real world experiences for students in a number of programs.
“This agreement with BCIT allows Selkirk to partner with another nationally recognized institution,” says Neil Coburn, Selkirk College’s Vice President of Education and Students. “Each institution has recognized areas where the other has strengths and expertise the partnership can draw on to create relevant and innovative programs and services.”
The MOU helps both partners achieve goals in a fiscally responsible manner by identifying the strengths of current research and development activities. The collaborative approach ensures both institutions are able to better serve their students, faculty and community partners.
The agreement is a first step and broadly outlines areas of interest. The partnership will continue to develop over time to meet the needs of both BCIT and Selkirk College.
The British Columbia Institute of Technology is based out of Burnaby with an enrolment of more than 18,000 full-time students and 28,000 part-time students. Selkirk College is based in the West Kootenay/Boundary region of southern British Columbia with its main campus located in Castlegar. Selkirk College has an enrolment of 2,300 full time students and more than 10,000 part-time students.
