Body of Michael Mucha found by Nelson Search and Rescue Wednesday

Nelson RCMP announced in a media release this afternoon that the body of Michael Mucha was located by Nelson Search Rescue near the north end of the Big Orange Bridge Wednesday morning.

Search Rescue found the 21-year-old Nelson man in a wooded area near the bridge at 10 a.m. Wednesday (June 18).

RCMP said the exact cause of death is not being released at this time.

However, police confirmed foul play is not suspected. 

Family members of Mucha have been notified of the discovery.

The investigation has now been forwarded to the B. C. Coroner Service.

RCMP asking for public assistance in locating missing Nelson man

Nelson RCMP is asking for public assistance in locating local man, Michael Mucha, who has been missing since early Tuesday (June 17).

RCMP said Mucha, 21, went missing from his residence in the 800 Block on the North Shore just east of Nelson Tuesday morning.

Police said Mucha left all his personal belongings at his residence and appears to have left on foot in an unknown direction.

Mucha is described as 6’2″ tall, 150 pounds with blue eyes and short dirty blonde spiky hair with facial hair. He was last seen wearing a blue plaid shirt, blue jeans and light blue loafer type shoes.

Nelson Search and Rescue conducted a grid search behind Mucha’s residence up the side of the mountain and the power lines late Tuesday evening with no success.

RCMP is asking anyone who saw Michael Mucha Tuesday to contact the local detachment to provide details of the location and or direction of travel.
