On Feb. 8, RCMP in Powell River responded to a possible drug complaint and ended up arresting David Grant Mack, 38 years old, of Trail on several outstanding warrants, according to Trail’s top cop, Sgt. Darren Oelke.

“Trail Detachment had previously received a tip that ‘Grant’ Mack was possibly residing in Powell River,” Oelke said, adding the man was wanted for allegedly assaulting someone witha hammer. “A photograph of Mack and details on his outstanding warrants were forwarded to Powell River with a request to keep an eye open for him. That’s exactly what they did.”

On Sunday, police in Powell River responded to a drug complaint at an apartment building.

“While questioning Mack, who provided a fake name, they became suspicious of his identity,” Oelke said. “An officer recognized Mack from the photograph and swiftly arrested him for the warrants. Mack recognized his run from the law was over and acknowledged his true identity.”

The man had been on the run from the RCMP in Trail for 11 months, since March of 2014 after he was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm and Assault with a Weapon stemming from a violent attack on another male. In June, Mack was charged with two counts of Failing to Comply with his Probation and another warrant was obtained.

“In December 2014 Mack returned to Trail and allegedly commited another assault, stole a dog and threatened to poison the animal, and ripped the hydro meter off of a residence,” Oelke said. “He has been charged with assault, uttering threats, theft, and mischief in that matter.

Powell River RCMP are also investigating Mack for a possible fraud in their community.

“Mack has 31 convictions on his criminal record, many related to extreme violence. Mack has been remanded to appear in Powell River court on February 11, 2015. The communities of Trail and Powell River are much safer with Grant Mack behind bars.”
