Construction of the Castlegar Mountain Bike Skills Park is underway, and the Castlegar Parks and Trails Society is asking residents for their patience and assistance while this ambitious project is developed.

“Equipment will be working in the area in order to prepare the site for construction,” said Eileen Senyk in a press release today. “The work will include excavation and grading of the site. There will be some dump truck traffic.”

Senyk said work is expected to occur through the month of May on an intermittent basis.

“Please observe signs and flagging tape, and refrain from entering fenced areas. Every effort will be made to minimize noise and inconvenience.”

She added, though, that the inconvenience will be far outweighed by the finished project.

“Once completed, the bike park will be a regional attraction as it will be the largest bike park in the West Kootenays.”

She said the bike park will benefit the City of Castlegar and surrounding area by:

  • enhancing Castlegar’s growing reputation as a regional mountain biking destination, which will in turn support local businesses in Castlegar;
  • providing  a facility for cyclists of all ages to enhance their skills, improve their fitness and increase their confidence;
  • providing a venue for family friendly recreation.

“The Castlegar Parks and Trails Society appreciates your understanding and cooperation,” she concluded.
