Save Money, Reduce Pollution? Ride-Share!
The Kootenay Rideshare website, hosted by the West Kootenay EcoSociety, will be re-launched with new features on November 29. The new website address is: https://kootenay.ride-share.org/
The Kootenay Rideshare website is free for users and has helped over 15,000 people carpool, creating community connections, and reducing carbon pollution. The updated website includes increased privacy for users, a user ratings feature, and a mobile-friendly design.
“At times in the past, I’ve felt nervous using Rideshare because I didn’t know the people I would be getting rides with or their driving ability. I am excited for the user-rating feature to help overcome this challenge,” said Montana Burgess, EcoSociety’s Executive Director.
The EcoSociety will be hosting a Kootenay Rideshare launch party on Tuesday, November 29 at 7pm in their Nelson office at Suite 206 – 507 Baker St. The celebration will include a tour of the new Rideshare site.
“The new Kootenay Rideshare will also have regional node sites for different cities, like Cranbrook and Nelson, that feed into the Kootenay Rideshare network,” said Tim James, EcoSociety’s Rideshare Project Manager. “Rides and requests posted in one node are available to people in all other nodes. This allows for regional branding and increases the visibility of each ride available.”
The EcoSociety will continue to promote the Kootenay Rideshare website next year after its re-launch as a way to reduce carbon pollution and build community within the West Kootenays.
The website provides more information and helpful suggestions for ways to increase safety and comfort for both drivers and passengers, as well as suggestions for how much to offer (or ask) for sharing of costs.
West Kootenay EcoSociety is a non-profit organization based in Nelson BC. Its mission is to bring together local residents to protect the natural environment while building just, equitable, healthy, and livable communities in the West Kootenay region.
