Creston RCMP said a body recovered from Crawford Creek Wednesday is believed to be that of missing Crawford Bay teacher Alvin Dunic.

The 57-year-old Nelson resident went missing in May after leaving the Crawford Bay Elementary-Secondary School to look for a spot near Crawford Creek where his students could complete a poetry project.

RCMP dive teams, Swift Water Teams as well as Search and Rescue volunteers from and from around the province, including Nelson Search and Rescue, searched Crawford Creek and terrain around the creek for days with no luck.

At the time of Dunic’s disappearance the water levels were running high in Crawford creek with spring run-off and it was thought he may have been swept away.

The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating.
