Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue has responded to three vehicle fires in four days, two of which were called in Wednesday night.

The first vehicle fire was near Columbia Gardens Road on July 9, with the call coming in at 12:23 a.m. The fire was in a forested area, and crews had it knocked down very quickly. The cause remains under investigation.

Then last night, according to Cpt. Greg Ferraby, they received another call at 10:23 p.m. indicating a vehicle fire on Highway 3B at the Paulsen Bridge. Eight firefighters responded.

Trail RCMP Acting Sgt. Devon Reid said this one appeared to be purely mechanical in nature.

Finally, another call came in at 11:58 p.m. last night of a vehicle fire at Hwy 22 and Birchbank Station Road. The vehicle was abandoned, and police confirmed it had been stolen. The investigation is ongoing.

“We don’t believe any of these are related,” Reid said in a Thursday interview. “They are all independent situations.”

Neither the vehicle occupants or firefighters were injured.
