RANT: Outraged at malicious commentary after police car crash
I am absolutely livid over commentary I’ve seen on social media condemning a local police officer who was in a car crash while trying to save other people’s lives. (Click here for the full story)
Vicious social-media back-seat drivers have laughed at his misfortune (he could have been killed), derided his driving skill, accused him of everything ranging from stupidity to incompetence to using his phone and/or computer while driving.
I think those people ought to dig really, really deep and see if they can’t find some shred of humanity within themselves – any basic decency at all that might prevent them from such vile, cruel, unwarranted and unprovoked malice, and in a public venue, no less.
The man was speeding, yes – in a situation where seconds were critical, risking his own life in an effort to save the lives of others.
And THIS is the thanks he gets?!?
I don’t know the officer in question, but I’d bet dollars to doughnuts that he lives in this community, as I imagine do his family members and friends, all of whom will likely have seen this unadulterated crap online. Not much motivation for him to give his all to get to the next MVI, where it might be a member of YOUR family whose life is on the line – but I imagine he’ll do it anyway, no thanks to you.
It is despicable, underhanded, and a cheap way to score points off someone else’s misfortune, and you – the people engaging in this – should be deeply ashamed.
And what do you suppose it says to the loved ones of the people he was rushing to save? Two people are in hospital and two kids are presumed dead, and yet you’re mocking a hero for going too QUICKLY to their aid?
Are you KIDDING me?!?!
I wish there was a law against it and they could clap you in irons for your spiteful venom – maybe a jail cell would give you enough time to contemplate just how horribly you’ve behaved and consider how to be a productive, positive member of this community instead.
