Take a stand against violence with Clothesline Project
The Clothesline Project will be taking place during the Victims and Survivors of Crime Week. On Wednesday, May 29 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., we will address the issue of violence against women, children, men and other genders.
Abuse is when one person is trying to gain power or control over another person using physical, emotional, sexual or financial tactics. This commonly presents itself as a cycle of power and control – such as someone is hit or sexually assaulted. However people may also experience verbal, emotional, psychological or financial abuse. These types of abuse may be more subtle, but are abusive nonetheless, and frequently lead to physical violence.
For the Clothesline Project children, youth, and adults have painted t-shirts to share their thoughts and feelings about this topic. The t-shirts will be displayed at the Clothesline Project. Prior to the event t-shirts will be shown in different community settings, including the library.
The event will start with an opening ceremony, followed by speakers from community partners and CDCSS staff. Further, various service providers will attend with informative resource tables. You also don’t want to miss the live performance by ukulele students, and interactive theatre by “Miss Marmot”. Last, but not least the concession will provide free hotdogs, drinks and cookies.
We welcome you at Millennium Park on May 29 to show your support for this issue that affects many.
