Police believe there may be a connection between a series of petty thefts in Trail over the weekend, according to Trail top cop RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

“On July 6 at 4:29 p.m. the Trail … RCMP received a report that a 64-year-old-male had his pants containing his wallet with his bank cards, credit cards, and cash and truck keys stolen from the men’s change room at the Trail Aquatic and Leisure Centre … after briefly leaving them unattended,” Wicentowich said in a press release Monday. “The investigation is ongoing.”

The following day, he said, on July 7 at 9:20 a.m., the Trail RCMP received a report that an unknown/unknown suspect(s) stole a stereo and a cordless drill from a deck and a jackhammer from an open garage overnight in the 400 block of Binn Street.

“The homeowner reported seeing a suspicious black Chevrolet Avalanche with a partial licence plate of “6643” in the area recently.”

Later that same day, police received two reports at the same time, 12:30 p.m., of thefts. They received a report that an unknown/unknown suspect(s) stole a ladder off the front porch of a residence overnight in the 1300 block of Tamarac Avenue.

At the same time, they got a separate report that an unknown/unknown suspect(s) stole a wallet containing $20o, credit cards, debit cards, identification, and sunglasses from an unlocked vehicle overnight in the 600 block of Hendry Street.

Finally, at 7:39 p.m. the Trail and Greater District Detachment RCMP received a report that an unknown/unknown suspect(s) stole a green 18-volt cordless Ryobi drill and reciprocating saw from the deck of a residence overnight in the 1400 block of Second Avenue.

“The Trail and Greater District Detachment RCMP remind the public not to leave any valuable items outside on their property, unattended in public spaces, and inside their vehicles due to the risk of theft,” Wicentowich said. “The public taking pro-active preventative action will help reduce the amount of theft in the Trail area.”
