How often do you get to go to a market and all the vendors are kids? You will get the chance in just a few days! West Kootenay home learners from Trail, Castlegar, Nelson, and the Slocan Valley are meeting centrally at the Crescent Valley Hall to run their own business for a day.

Vendors ages are from six to teens, and range from experienced market vendors who have run their own table beside a parent’s at multiple craft fairs, to excited newbies, “playing store for real,” for the very first time.

You’ll meet Starfleet Stella (10) with her Star Wars soaps and lollipops and Sonny (10) and Cian (7), two jeweller brothers who create personalized necklaces or earrings on the spot from gemstones brought back from India. Asher (6) is selling crystals, fairy doors, and peg dolls to help raise money for gifts for the Kugaaruk Kindergarten kids in Nunavut.

For their very first market ever, Rylynn (11) will be selling different kinds of homemade slime in many colours. Griffin (8) will be selling Perler bead creations and Mason (13) is selling pop culture items and knitted washcloths. Jude (9) and Nova (6) will have Solstice/Christmas ornaments and decorations.

These are just a few of our young entrepreneurs but they have all been hard at work making all sorts of surprises and are all very excited to have all of you come support them. Please come buy some Christmas gifts or decor, something special for yourselves or loved ones, and please invite all your friends and neighbours.

The Young Makers’ Market will be held at the Crescent Valley Community Hall (1385 Hwy 6, across from the Frog Peak Cafe) on Sunday, Nov. 24 from 2 to 5 p.m. Admission is completely FREE!
