The Trail and Greater District Detachment has received reports of vandalism to local businesses occurring in the Trail area.  Three businesses have had a window smashed sometime overnight.  It is believe that the incidents could be connected.  The RCMP is asking the public to remain vigilant at this time and report on any suspicious activity or crime.  The RCMP is conducting extra vehicle and foot patrols in the downtown core to help mitigate risks to closed businesses.

If you are a business owner, whenever possible, please:

  • Ensure your business is locked and secured when unoccupied.

  • Use quality deadbolts on all exterior doors.

  • Place steel security bars on your door to prevent kick-ins.

  • Install security cameras.

  • Install external lights to reduce dark areas.

  •  Install an audible alarm which notifies you or a security company when triggered.

  • Remove valuables from your business if it is closed for the short and long term.

  • Regularly check on your closed business and report any incidents to the local RCMP.

  •  Form a social media group with your fellow businesses to keep up to date on crime trends that may affect your business.  Let them know if you happen to check on their business for them.

  • Report suspicious occurrences and activities to the local RCMP.

  • Contact the RCMP to inform them that your business is closed and provide up to date contact information.
