On Monday, June 29, at 11:35 am, RCMP members of the Trail Detachment and West Kootenay Traffic Services attended to a report of a serious collision involving two motorcycles on Highway 3B at Marcolin Road in Trail. Investigators have completed a preliminary investigation and found that a westbound motorcycle driven by a 81-year-old female from Ross Spur turned left in front of an oncoming motorcycle driven by a 68-year-old male from Fruitvale who could not avoid the collision. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be contributing factors.

Both riders received life threatening injuries. Emergency crews were able to transport them to the Trail Hospital where they were evacuated by air to Kelowna General Hospital. Both remain ins serious condition.

Highway 3B was restricted to single-lane alternating traffic for just under three hours while police investigated and the scene was cleared.

Sgt. Chad Badry with West Kootenay Traffic said, “We have seen a number of motorcycle collisions over the past few weeks. We are well in to motorcycle season now and I can not emphasize how important it is for both motorcyclists and other road users to be alert and cautious when driving. Lives depend on this.”

The RCMP is aware of a number of vehicles at the intersection at the time. Anyone that may have witnessed the collision or may have dash camera footage is asked to call West Kootenay Traffic Services at 250-354-5180.
