Preparations are in full force for the May opening of Castlegar Sculpturewalk 2021, and it’s going to be another great year in The Sculpture Capital of Canada™! “Despite Covid, we were fortunate to be able to continue with our program in 2020, and we’re looking forward to a dynamic 2021 season,” says Sculpturewalk Executive Director Joy Barrett. “So many arts and culture events and festivals have been forced to cancel, but because we’re a self-guided outdoor program that can easily accommodate safety regulations, we’re able to continue to offer a much-needed attraction for the community. Despite the anticipated downturn in international visitors last year, we actually saw a significant increase in regional visitors who were looking for a safe and enjoyable outdoor pursuit.”
“Now, more than ever, it’s also vitally important that we continue to offer our artists financial support to support their livelihoods through this difficult time. Our sponsors help to pay for the installation, shipping and other costs for each sculpture, and we couldn’t do it without them. Their vision and commitment have enabled the program to bring over two hundred works of art to Castlegar, increase our permanent public art exponentially, and has helped discover emerging, home-grown talent and welcomed established artists from further afield.”
