Police haven’t found the source of gunshots heard near Trail, but did nab people breaking the law, according to Trail top cop Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

“On Friday, May 29, at 3:14 p.m., Trail and Greater District RCMP and BC Highway Patrol responded to a complaint about gunshots being fired near the Seven Mile Dam on Seven Mile Dam Road in Trail.” he said. “Witnesses saw a man and a woman in an older model burgundy Toyota 4 Runner SUV with large tires leaving the area at a high rate of speed. They believed more gunshots were fired out of the SUV as it drove away. A second vehicle, a white Dodge pickup truck, was also seen leaving the area and suspected to be involved in the incident.

“Trail RCMP and BC Highway Patrol conducted extensive patrols and located a vehicle matching the description of the SUV, with a 30-year-old Trail man behind the wheel, and his passenger an 18-year-old Trail woman.

“The man and woman were detained by police. A search of their vehicle did not locate firearms; however, a small amount of an illicit substance suspected to be Methamphetamine was seized.

“The Trail man was allegedly prohibited from driving a vehicle in BC. He will make his first court appearance on August 19, 2021 in Rossland Provincial Court, to face one count of drive while prohibited contrary to Section 95 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act. His vehicle was impounded for seven days.

“RCMP identified the driver and owner of the white Dodge pickup truck and will be conduct further investigation into the incident.”
