This past weekend the Robson Volunteer Fire Department hosted their second annual Rooftop Camp Out to raise critical funds and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy Canada. On Oct. 2 – 3, from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., several members from the RVFD were atop Johnny’s Grocery and Gas and they raised their highest total since they began fundraising in 2014 with a whopping $10,394!

For more than 65 years, Fire Fighters have been supporting MD Canada and Canadians impacted by neuromuscular disorders and it is a longstanding tradition that both Fire Fighters and MD Canada are extremely proud of. To show their support for people with neuromuscular disorders, Robson Fire Fighters set up camp on the Rooftop to raise awareness and funds to help “make muscles move”. A Rooftop Campout is a fundraising event where local Fire Fighters gain pledges for a 24 hour stay on a local rooftop.

The money raised by Robson Fire Fighters will be donated to MD Canada to support their mission of enhancing the lives of those affected with neuromuscular disorders by continually working to provide ongoing support and resources while relentlessly searching for a cure.

“Once again, we are just amazed at the generosity of our community and we are beyond grateful to every person who donated and came out to support this weekend. COVID has made everything a little different, especially in the fundraising world, but we’re so happy to have found an event that our community has really gotten behind that can be done safely,” said Rebecca Brohman, Muscular Dystrophy Canada Chair and Captain with RVFD.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our members for putting on another fantastic event – it’s great to be able to engage with our community while raising these crucial funds. Massive thanks to the team at Johnny’s Grocery and Gas – we couldn’t do this without their support. Also big thanks to our community for coming out to support MD Canada with us,”  said Jeff Grant, Chief with RVFD.
