Stabbing leads Castlegar RCMP to drugs, weapons
Two local men drew police attention to themselves after what appears to have been a knife fight, acccording to Castlegar detachment commander RCMP Sgt. Monty Taylor
In the early morning hours of Nov. 23, a home owner on Rosedale Road in Ootishenia answered their door to a male covered in blood reporting he had been stabbed,” Taylor said. “The home owners immediately called emergency services at 5:48 a.m. and provided first aid to the 43-year-old male..”
Taylor said emergency services arrived and treated the male, who had multiple stab wounds, and determined the male was associated to a nearby residence.
“Police officers attended to the residence and located a second male 31 years of age who was taken into police custody for assault with a weapon,” Taylor added. “The 31-year-old male also had injuries consistent to being stabbed.
“Both males were subsequently transported to hospital for their injuries and later released. It is suspected the two males, who are friends,, got into an argument which resulted in them both being injured. To further the investigation, police obtained a search warrant for the residence to collect further evidence for the assault investigation and in the process subsequently located items in the residence consistent with trafficking narcotics.
“A second search warrant was obtained to further the investigation into trafficking a controlled substance. During search of the residence police seized evidence related to the assault including edged weapons and evidence to support the investigation of trafficking a controlled substance that included a quantity of suspected cocaine, fentanyl and psilocybin. As well police seized other weapons not related to the offence.”
Castlegar RCMP are continuing to investigate and ask anyone with information to call police at (250)365-7721.
