Lieutenant Governor to undertake official visit to Kootenays

The Honourable Janet Austin, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, will undertake an official visit this week to the Kootenay regional, including stops in Nelson at Selkirk College and Castlegar, at the Southeast Fire Centre and Doukhobor Discovery Centre.

Lieutenant Governor Austin will also visit Cranbrook and Creston.

While in Nelson, Her Honour will meet with local dignitaries from the city and community Thursday morning.

The Lieutenant Governor will be escorted on a tour of downtown’s murals, followed by a visit to the Selkirk College Victoria Street campus to meet with fine arts students in studio.

Her Honour will also take part in a roundtable with local women- and family-services support providers at Nelson Community Services.

Later Thursday, at 1 p.m. in Castlegar, Her Honour will visit the Southeast Fire Centre and thank local B.C. Wildfire Service and Emergency Management British Columbia staff. Her Honour will also visit the Doukhobor Discovery Centre.

  • Janet Austin was sworn in as the province’s 30th lieutenant governor in 2018 and this will be Her Honour’s first official visit to the Kootenays.
