An elementary school student who allegedly made threats toward their school poses no danger whatsoever to the school or the community at large, according to Trail RCMP NCOIC Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

“On Thursday, June 9, a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was notified that a youth allegedly made a threat on a social media platform toward a local school in the Trail and Greater District area,” Wicentowich said. “The officer notified the school principal, who was already actively managing the situation.”

He said the student will not be returning to the school for the remainder of the year, and the schoolis not being named in an effort to protect the identity of the child involved.

“The student allegedly did not have any intention to follow up on the threat, nor had the means to carry it out at the time of the incident,” Wicentowich added. “The student is being supported at this time. Trail and Greater District RCMP will continue to monitor the situation in partnership with the school.”

He asked that the public please report any such incident to the Trail and Greater District Detachment at 250-364-2566.

Trail RCMP will fully investigate any direct threat made toward a school as several high profile school tragedies have occurred in the recent years. We take these incidents very seriously and the perpetrator may face criminal charges if they apply.
