Castlegar RCMP investigating a threat among youth

On May 16, the Castlegar RCMP received a report that a 15-year-old Castlegar female had made a threat of violence involving a firearm toward another youth on a social media platform, according to Castlegar RCMP NC/oic Sgt. Monty Taylor.
“The threat was allegedly made after a disturbance among youth that occurred at an event over the previous weekend,” Taylor said. “The message thread had included youth that reside in the Castlegar, Trail and Salmo areas. Castlegar RCMP have been in contact with the suspect youth and their guardian.
“As part of the police investigation an immediate risk assessment was made that also determined there was no risk to any of the schools in the area.”
He said Castlegar RCMP are continuing to investigate the allegation.
