Nearly two dozen Castlegar RCMP officers and employees came together to help make one local family’s Christmas extra special.

Prior to the holiday season, the chosen family is contacted by the Castlegar RCMP, who explained their holiday initiative and gather important details, including the family’s greatest needs around the holidays. This included what the individual interests of each member of the family are.

The RCMP employees and their families contribute to the special cause, donating money, food items, and purchasing gift cards, and other gifts. The current liaison officer then works with his own family to wrap the gifts for the entire family and the gift cards help ensure the sponsor family can purchase the trimmings needed for a holiday supper.  Additional sponsors in the community also contributed free passes for local entertainment and recreational activities.

A/Cpl. Kyle Plotnikoff alongside his wife and their young son have been organizing the community RCMP led initiative for nine years, and, “from the reaction of the parent(s) when dropping off the gifts, we can only imagine how happy their children will be”.

This year, the local detachment sponsored a family of four, with children 11 years of age and under.

As the Castlegar RCMP Detachment Commander, I’m incredibly proud of our team’s efforts in sponsoring a local family this Christmas, says Sgt. Monty Taylor, Castlegar RCMP Detachment Commander. Their dedication to community service, both professionally and personally, showcase the true spirit of the season and strengthens the bond we have with the community.
