On Feb. 22, 2025, local athletes, along with RCMP officers in Castlegar will brave the icy waters of the Columbia River at Millennium Park to support Special Olympics BC. The Polar Plunge, set to take place at 1 p.m., invites community members to participate or donate to raise funds for this great cause.

The goal for this year’s event is to raise $2,500, with participation already confirmed from the local Fire Department and Search and Rescue teams.

All the local funds raised will stay within the community to directly support Special Olympics BC. The SOBC is an organization dedicated to providing individuals with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to stay active, build relationships, and foster community connections.

Community members can register for the plunge or donate.  Anyone not participating is encouraged to come out and watch.

UPDATE from Sgt. Taylor: “With the great support from everyone to date, we just raised our goal to $5,000.”

Congratulations and Good Luck!
