Motorcyclist dies after collision with elk

A Fruitvale motorcyclist has died after colliding with an e4lk on Hwy 3B near the intersection of 10 Avenue in Montrose early Monday morning.
Trail St/Sgt. Dave Johnson said the call came in at 4:20 a.m. when a fellow motorist stopped to provide first aid and called 9-1-1. Efforts were unsuccessful and the motorcyclist died on the scene.
No information about the rider is being issued at this time.
Johnson said neither speed nor impairment were considered factors in the crash, and the investigation has now been turned over to the BC Coroner’s Service.
The elk was injured and had to be dispatched at the scene.
