Nelson crews return from Summerland
Nelson Hydro and Nelson Public Works returned from Summerland this week where they were providing mutual aid following wildfire damage in the community.
City of Nelson support included a Nelson Hydro line crew, and Public Works vacuum and gravel truck crews. The crews assisted with restoring power to critical infrastructure, including water pump stations and other essential services.
Nelson Fire & Rescue Services also sent additional fire suppression gear to aid Summerland fire crews.
The request was coordinated through Summerland’s emergency operations centre, and City staff worked with local responders and Summerland’s emergency operations team. The deployment was part of the mutual-aid arrangements between communities that allow municipalities to share crews, equipment, and resources during emergencies. Drone footage captures some of the setup here.
In January 2021 during a severe wind event in the Nelson, Summerland crews were deployed to the city to support Nelson Hydro crews restore power to 4000 residents in Nelson and rural areas. The City thanks crews for stepping up to provide assistance to our regional neighbours.
