Cops for Kids Riders Arriving in Castlegar Sept. 13

The Castlegar community is invited to come out and welcome the Cops for Kids Ride team when they arrive at the Castlegar RCMP Detachment on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 3:30 p.m.
Presented by the Thomas Alan Budd Foundation, the annual Cops for Kids Ride brings together law enforcement and civilian riders for a challenging 10-day cycling journey across Southeastern BC. The team is raising funds to provide support to children and families facing serious medical, physical, or traumatic challenges.
The riders will arrive in Castlegar after cycling from Grand Forks earlier that day, continuing a demanding route through the Kootenays and Interior. After months of training, fundraising, and preparation, the team is taking on some of the region’s toughest roads and climbs all in support of local children and their families.
Everyone is encouraged to come to the Castlegar RCMP Detachment at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13 to welcome the riders. Bring the family, wave, cheer, and show your support as the team arrives in the community.
For the riders, the welcomes they receive along the route are about more than simply taking a break from the road. Meeting community members and hearing words of encouragement provides a meaningful reminder of the families and children they are riding for.
“This ride is physically demanding, but the reason behind it makes every kilometre worthwhile,” says retired RCMP Superintendent Brent Mundle, President of Cops for Kids. “When people come out to meet us along the route, it gives our riders the opportunity to connect with the communities they serve and reminds us all what this ride is really about — helping children and families when they need it most.”
Funds raised through Cops for Kids provide direct financial assistance to families throughout the year when they are facing unexpected and overwhelming challenges. For families dealing with significant medical, physical, or traumatic circumstances, this support can help ease some of the financial pressures they face.
Since 2001, Cops for Kids has raised more than $6.8 million to support children and families across Southeastern BC. The annual ride is the organization’s signature fundraising event and brings communities together with law enforcement in support of children in need.
Castlegar residents can show their support by welcoming the riders, cheering them on along their route, making a donation, or following their journey online.
The riders will be arriving after cycling from Grand Forks that day. Come out and give them a Castlegar welcome as they continue their journey to raise funds for local kids.
