Trail police are both celebrating a win and asking for help after two unrelated cases they investigated this week, according to RCMP Cpl. Darryl Orr.

“On April 16, the Trail and Greater District RCMP executed a search warrant issued under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a rural Fruitvale residence,” Orr said. “One male was arrested relating to this investigation and charges of Possession of Marihuana for the Purpose of Trafficking and Production of Marihuana will be recommended by police.”

Orr said it was a significant grow-op.

“Approximately 600 marihuana plants in various stages of growth were seized during the execution of the warrant,” he said, while declining to provide further information about the man until official charges are sworn, as is accepted practice in criminal matters. “The male will be appearing in Rossland court in May.”

A win for police, but officers still have a bug in their bonnet, insofar as they very badly want to find the fellow involved in an incident yesterday.

“On April 16 at 2:24 p.m., the … RCMP responded to a theft complaint in the Gyro Park walking trail area in Trail. A woman had been walking on the trail carrying a back pack when a male described as: Caucasian male, late forties or early fifties, grey/dark beard and shoulder length hair (unkempt), blue jeans, jean- or chord-type jacket, approximately 5’5″ – 5’7″ riding a light green and white mountain bike, approached her from behind and grabbed the back pack off her shoulder as he drove by. The back pack contained numerous items belonging to the victim including her purse.

“The Trail and Greater District RCMP are taking this incident very seriously and wish to identify this suspect as soon as possible. Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Trail & Greater District RCMP at 250-364-2566 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).”
