IIO to investigate officer-involved shooting in Burnaby

An officer-involved shooting in Burnaby will be investigated by the Independent Investigations Office, according to a press release issued Friday.
“Just before 7 a.m., police responded to a complaint of shots fired at a residence in the 3800 block of Frances Street in Burnaby, where at least one male victim was shot and the suspect still present,” said the release, which was issued by Sgt. Annie Linteau. “Multiple police resources were dispatched to the scene and a perimeter was established with coordinated resources from the Lower Mainland District and the Vancouver Police Department given the proximity.
‘Police determined that a suspect was believed to be inside a two level residence. Attempts to negotiate with the suspect failed and due to the possibility that additional individuals’ lives may be at risk, police entered the home. Shots were fired, the circumstances of which are now under investigation. A male suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. The scene and all weapons have been secured in anticipation of the arrival of the IIO BC.
‘Police can also confirm the initial male victim was located deceased within the residence and that they were also able to safely evacuate an upstairs tenant without further issue.
