“The end of one year and the beginning of a new one is a chance to reflect and an opportunity to set new goals to shape a better future – for ourselves, our families and our entire province.

“I am honoured to celebrate with you the successes of the past year, including the remarkable economic recovery in our province as we come out of the pandemic. But I also see clearly where people in our province have been tested over the past year. We face challenges related to housing, a strained health-care system, the effects of global inflation on the costs of everyday life, and people sick and struggling in our streets. We have much to be grateful for, but we have so much more work to do during the coming year.

“For next year, my resolutions at home are to be a good dad and a supportive and tidy husband. At work, my resolution is to continue taking action on the issues that matter most to British Columbians.

“If the pandemic taught us one thing above all else, it’s that going it alone doesn’t work. We’ll make progress only if we take care of each other.

“By working together during the next year, we’ll take real steps toward building a B.C. where everyone can build a good life: A province where you can afford a good home and feel safe in your community, can get access to a family doctor and the services you rely upon; and where we build a stronger, more sustainable economy in partnership with Indigenous Peoples.

“Because of the continuing resilience of British Columbians in the face of many trials, I am optimistic about our future. We are truly fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful and prosperous places on the planet. Let’s keep working to build an even better B.C. over the next year, for ourselves and for the coming generations.

“From my family to all of yours, have a happy and healthy new year.”
