Trail RCMP are dealing with a bizarre set of circumstances that saw a Suzuki SUV submerged in the Columbia River last night.

RCMP Sgt. Darren Oelke says there was no one in the car when police found it, but the Search and Rescue jet boat has been deployed to search the river as a precaution.

Oelke said the situation is a convoluted one, involving several files, and police are not able, at this time, to outline all the specific details that led to the car’s submersion. They do not, however, believe there is anyone caught in the river – search efforts are simply precautionary.

Oelke could not say whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in this incident.
