Ever considered becoming a C.O.P.?

Well – they don’t give you a gun or a badge or even a taser, but it might be a cool way to spend some time, just the same.
Castlegar Citizens On Patrol (COP) is looking for volunteers, according to Castlegar RCMP Cpl. Deb Postnikoff.
“Citizens on Patrol are volunteers that act as extra “eyes and ears” for law enforcement in their communities,” she said. “Volunteers primarily assist police to deter crime and improve safe driving habits.”
Postnikoff said there is much to be gained from become a COP….without the danger faced by their RCMP brethren.
“Volunteers receive training, always patrol in pairs and do not take enforcement action – they only observe and report,” she said. “Teams look for unusual activities at public places, including local parks, neighborhood streets and parking lots.”
Perhaps most importantly, COPs really do make a difference in their communities.
“Some communities have seen a reduction in criminal activity as much as 20 per cent as a result of active Citizens on Patrol groups,” Postnikoff explained. “Our local Citizens on Patrol group continues to be an asset to the detachment. ”
