Opening the Kootenay Gallery’s fifth season of Monday Night at the Movies, Easy Virtue will be shown at the Kootenay Centre Cinemas on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.

This sparkling romantic comedy, starring Colin Firth , Kristin Scott Thomas, Ben Barnes and Jessica Biel is based on a Noel Coward play and was first adapted for the silent era screen by Alfred Hitchcock, so its pedigree is impeccable.

Larita, an American Jazz-age racing car driver, impulsively marries a young Englishman, John, and travels to England to meet his privileged and batty family. Naturally, his mother and sisters hate her and do their best to sabotage the marriage and drive away this unsuitable interloper. Only the family’s patriarch, Colin Firth, accepts her and they form a bond based on their mutual appreciation of motorbikes and flouting social etiquette!

Crafty direction by Stephan Elliott, snappy dialogue and a delightful cast make this movie from the Toronto Film Circuit an elegant, entertaining period piece.

Season passes for eight movies are $48 for gallery members, $64 for non-members and single tickets $9, are on sale at the Kootenay Gallery, the Castlegar Library and will available at the door. Doors open at 6.30 p.m.
