Author Chris Czakowski presents a a slideshow and lecture and will sign copies of her new book A Mountain Year at the Castlegar & District Public Library on Nov. 14 at 3 p.m.

Czajkowski was born and raised in the north of England. She lived and worked in Uganda, New Zealand, the South Pacific and South America.

Then, in 1988,Czajkowski walked into B.C.’s Central Coast Mountains to build a homestead, a business, and a life.

Her wilderness and cabin-building experiences have been documented in several bestselling books, including Cabin at Singing River, Snowshoes and Spotted Dick: Letters from a Wilderness Dweller, Diary of a Wilderness Dweller and Lonesome: Memoirs of Wilderness Dog.

Czajkowski described the experience of fire nearly destroying her wilderness residence in her book Wildfire in the Wilderness.

In the calm that followed, she took the time to reflect on the beauty of the nature around her. The result is A Mountain Year, a beautifully-produced art book full of original paintings, sketches and diary entries.

This event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Kootenay Library Federation and the Friends of the Castlegar & District Public Library. For more information, phone the library at 250-365-6611.
