A Castlegar high school student will be in court July 21 facing charges relating to the possession of child pornography.

Castlegar RCMP Sgt. Laurel Mathew said police are not releasing the name of the 18-year-old male at this time, as the investigation is still under way, but says there’s no cause for local parents to panic.

“The pictures appear to have been downloaded from the Internet,” she said.

She said the man has been arrested and released on numerous conditions, including not to be in possession of electronic devices capable of downloading and storing pictures, not to access the Internet anywhere, and not to have contact or communication with, nor to be in alone in the presence of, anyone under the age of 16 years old unless in the company of another adult.
