June 9th, 2010

The Castlegar Garden Club will host the Ninth Annual Castlegar and Area Garden Tour, A Passion for Plants, on Sunday, June 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Evocative, impassioned . . . impossible to resist. Ten flagrantly delightful gardens will be open to the public.

A Garden Tour brochure with map is available locally at the Chamber of Commerce, Columbia Valley Greenhouses, Home Hardware, Castlegar & District Library, Castlegar Station Museum, City Hall, Community Complex, Johnny’s Groceries (Robson) or from castlegargardenclub@shaw.ca.

The heritage gardens on historic Zuckerberg Island will be featured. The last decade of CGC Garden Tours has resulted in an outburst of gardening activity locally and we expect that to grow exponentially in 2010. People will be trying out new garden ideas and experimenting with new plants.

A debut information/education table will promote gardening as a healthy activity for both the individual and the environment. Promotional material from local groups will highlight how everyone can keep environmental awareness in mind while gardening and contribute to the ‘Going Green’ program. June 27th promises to be an environmentally friendly fun-filled day for the entire family.

Fostering improved communication and a spirit of cooperation among gardeners, garden groups, community groups and local government is among the goals for 2010.

The City of Castlegar is generously supporting this year’s Garden Tour through the CBT Community Initiatives Program. Admission is free. Donations are appreciated for Zuckerberg Island, Castlegar and District Heritage Society. Information: Nora 250-365-6753.
