The ever-popular Castlegar Hallowe’en favourite, Spooks on Zuke, will not take place for the first time in more than a decade.

The annual fundraiser for the Castlegar and District Heritage Society will not be creeping out Castlegar this year as organizers take a hiatus to improve the event.

“We just have nothing new to offer – and it is a fundraiser, so we want to make sure the event is appealing and exciting for young and old alike,” said heritage society representative Deb McIntosh.

“We’re going to take a year off to look at fresh ideas and see how we can make it all bigger and better.”

She said keeping events like these fresh is critical, or the public loses interest.
“It’s an enormous amount of work, whether it makes money or not,” she said. “It just makes sense to wait and expend all that time and energy on an event that will make money and wow the crowds at the same time.”

McIntosh closed by suggesting all the little ghosties and goblins who want a real scare should pop by the mayor’s house while trick-or-treating.

“Oh sure, he’s plenty scary enough for the whole city,” she said.
