Investigation continues into alleged local sex offender
A court appearance today has not led police to desist with an ongoing investigation into the activities of a 24-year-old Castlegar man accused of several sex-related offenses.
The male was originally charged in early September, with two counts of sexual interference, two counts of sexual assault, one count of possession of child pornography and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon, according to RCMP Sgt. Darryl Little.
“The investigation continues to identify individuals whose photographs were located on his computer,” Little said. “Police have been in contact with a number of these young girls, and may be recommending additional charges to Crown Counsel.”
And that’s just the tip of a disturbing iceberg, Little said.
“In addition to the original offenses, the male has also been charged for two counts of breaching his release conditions, which included not having contact with any females under the age of 18. It is alleged that between Sept. 21 and Sept. 26, he was in contact with two females, under 18 years of age, contrary to this condition. The male is appearing in court today to face the allegations.”
Little concluded by explaining that a ban on publication was issued by the courts to protect all involved, therefore the name of the offender cannot be released.
