BREAKING NEWS: Suspects arrested in relation to local ATM thefts
The two suspects believed to be responsible for September 2010 Kootenay Boundary area Automated Teller Machine (ATM) Break and Enters have been located and arrested.
Both are currently in custody and each have each been charged with three counts of Break and Enter.
“We captured photos on video and, as a result, the suspects were identified,” said Staff Sgt. Dan Seibel. “As a result, we are very confident these (men) are the suspects.”
Darrin Christopher Hoffman, 38, was arrested on Dec. 26 by South Okanagan RCMP in Osoyoos. Hoffman’s next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 10 in Rossland Provincial Court.
Julian Alexander Hoekstra, 36, was arrested on Dec. 17 by RCMP in Surrey. Hoekstra will appear for a Bail Hearing on January 13, 2011 in Rossland Provincial Court.
“We captured photos on video and, as a result, the suspects were identified,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Dan Seibel. “As a result, we are very confident these (men) are the suspects.”
The four ATM occurrences were:
- Kootenay Regional Airport – Castlegar, ‘stand alone’ ATM on Sept. 10, 2010 at 11:30 p.m.
- Kootenay Savings Credit Union ATM – Hwy 3A/ Hwy 6, South Slocan on Sept 12 at 1:36 a.m.
- Kootenay Savings Credit Union night deposit box – Waneta Mall, Trail on Sept 12 at 4:30 a.m
- Heritage Credit Union ATM , South Slocan on Sept. 14 at 1:25 a.m.
“An undisclosed amount of money was stolen from the ATM at the regional airport, however, the thieves were unsuccessful in accessing any funds in the other three occurrences,” Seibel said. “The suspects as well as one of their vehicles were captured on video surveillance.”
