Beannacht Lá Fhéile Pádraig

March 17th, 2011

Beannacht Lá Fhéile Pádraig or Happy St Patrick’s Day.

St. Patrick’s Day is the national holiday of Ireland.

It’s a day of celebration, not only on that lovely, green rainsoaked island, but in every corner of the globe, where the more than 80 million people of Irish decent celebrate a common culture and history.

As Molly Bloom declared in the last gasp of Ulysses, the Irish declare “Yes” to life, to laughter, to tragedy and, ultimately, to victory over adversity, finding joy and tears comingle in our common humanity, and, yes, it is all worth celebrating.

So sing a song, tell a story, raise a glass to a people who have suffered much and given more, and if you are feeling a tug of nostalgia for a place you have never been, it is that drop of Irish blood calling you home.

Go N’Eirigh an bothar Leat (may the road Rise to meet you).
