Two Castlegar men charged with assaulting 61-year-old
Two Castlegar men are facing assault charges after an altercation Friday night.
Castlegar RCMP Cpl. Dan Pollock said police and ambulance were called to a downtown Castlegar residence at about 7 p.m. “Upon arrival, police located a 61-year-old male victim in his home suffering from facial injuries,” Pollock said. “The victim suffered a broken nose and a concussion.” Pollock said the alleged assailants, 20- and 22-years-old, were also in the building and were arrested promptly. “The subsequent investigation determined the victim is a tenant of the residence, which he shares with multiple others,” Pollock explained. “The assailants were visiting one of the other tenants in the home. It is alleged that the assailants attacked the victim by punching and kicking him (repeatedly). “The reasons for the attack are not clear, but the victim (had recently warned) the assailants to keep their celebrations under control. “Alcohol was a contributing factor.” One male, who is also facing breach of probation charges, will remain in custody until his appearance in Nelson court on April 26, while the other has been released on conditions.
