Name released of local teen convicted of possessing child pornography
Police are no longer withholding the name of a 19-year-old Castlegar teen facing his second set of charges for possession of child pornography.
Wheeler Wood made an appearance in Nelson court today after RCMP checked to see if he was complying with the conditions of release from a previous child-porn conviction, and found an electronic device that allowed Wood access to the Internet. Police say they found thousands of images downloaded from the Internet, many of which contained pornography. Wood served 14 days in prison for his prior conviction in 2010, but his name was withheld because police were hoping the young man would benefit from counselling and other intervention. The name was made public in open court.
