UPDATE: 17 year old charged with second degree murder in Trail weekend homicide
Update:
A charge of second degree murder has been laid on a 17-year-old male resident of Trail, after a physical altercation that occurred on May 15. The suspect remains in custody as the matter has been held over until May 19, when it will be handled at the Rossland Courthouse.
The Kootenay Boundary Regional Detachment General Investigation Section is continuing their investigation and will be providing further updates as the investigation progresses further.
The original press release, issued May 15, reads as follows:
Weekend homicide in Trail kills 25 year old resident. Two others in custody
A violent altercation in Trail midday Sunday afternoon has resulted in the death of one 25 year old local male resident. Shortly after 2 p.m. Greater Trail and District RCMP received a call from the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital after the victim was brought in with fatal injuries sustained in a physical altercation prior.
Following questioning and early investigation the police ascertained that the two males whom brought the fatally injured victim to the hospital were involved in the incident.
Upon further investigation it was revealed that one of the males in question who brought the victim to the hospital witnessed the event and was detained. The other male, a 17 year old youth from Trail was arrested and taken into custody and is currently being held pending a court appearance.
The two males involved in the incident, one now deceased, the other being held by police knew each other and shared a common residence in Trail. The incident was initiated at their shared home and was triggered by what police are referring to as “a known reason.”
There is no indication that any others were involved and police have made it clear that there is no threat of danger to the public.
The investigation has since been taken over by the Kootenay Boundary Regional Detachment General Investigations Section.
The identity of the victim is not being released at this time as the next of kin notification is being conducted.
