The puck will drop soon on a critical game for the Vancouver Canucks in their bid to bring Lord Stanley’s silver Cup home to Canada – and the Element’s all set to air the game.

Element owner Florio Vassilakakis said the play-off run has been a boon for business, despite a promotion that saw them give every patron at the Element up to 70-per-cent off their bills.

“We offered 10-per-cent off for every goal the Canucks scored, and that night they scored seven,” he said. “The next time, it was 30-per-cent off.”  He said that promotion was run to celebrate the Element’s fifth anniversary, and was hugely popular. More important, though has been the opportunity to see our home team skate toward a win.  “People in Castlegar are pumped, there’s no question. I’m just as excited as I would be if I lived in Vancouver,” he said, adding staff are having just as much fun with the playoffs and the patrons seem to be. “We’re all cheering and jumping up and down with every Canuck goal, too.  “Everyone’s really soaking it up and enjoying themselves.”  With seven 42-inch TVs, two 80-inchers and two 100-inch big screens, the Element offers a great view of the game from every angle … and two-for-one appetizers tonight.  “I love the feeling of camaraderie, watching it with everybody like that,” said one patron. “It’s so much more fun and exciting than watching at home alone.”  And if the boys in blue grab a win tonight, then Saturday night’s home game will beyond exciting, as a win would mean Stanley Cup honors for the Canucks.  Check out The Source afterward for our post-game analysis from The Nelson Daily’s sports guru, Bruce Fuhr.
