This week, Oct. 17 – 21, is Small Business Week in B.C, but the Castlegar Chamber of Commerce has opted to blanket the entire month with commerce-conducive events.

“We subscribe to the go-big-or-go-home notion, so we decided to make it the whole month,” said chamber executive director Pam McLeod.  Some of the month’s highlights include a seminar on target marketing Oct. 27, a ‘Grow Your Business’ workshop Oct. 28, and front-line training seminar Oct. 29. Target Marketing is slated for 9 to 11 a.m. at the Fireside Inn, and will cost $25 for registrants.  “This seminar has been held in other parts of the region, and it’s quite popular,” McLeod said, adding it’s put on by the Nelson Chamber of Commerce and Community Futures.  The following day will see another morning event, this time from 8:30 a.m. to noon, also with a $25 price tag, and also at the Fireside Inn.  “Grow Your Business is an interactive workshop designed to help business owners strategize around expansion,” said McLeod.  Last but not least is the World Host Training seminar all day on Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Community Forum.  According to the Chamber’s Matthew King, “The World Host program is designed and delivered by certified trainers and the objectives are to: Provide participants with an understanding of the importance of excellent customer service skills:  -Help participants communicate with costumers more effectively and efficiently;  -Help participants demonstrate their attentiveness to customer needs;  -Provide participants with an understanding of the social and economic contribution that a healthy tourism industry makes to their home communities and the province.   “This is on a first-come, first-served basis as we can only seat 24 people. Please RSVP to the Castlegar & District Chamber of Commerce at 250-365-6313.   This program will be held on Oct. 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Forum at 445 13th Avenue, Castlegar. Cost is $75, but the Castlegar Chamber will be offering it to those attending at a reduced rate of $37.50, with lunch included.”   For more information on this or other Chamber initiatives, call 250-365-6313.
