Randall Hopley has been declared fit to stand trial according to experts, the CBC reported Wednesday.

The man who is accused of abducting Kienan Hebert, 3, of Sparwood, had a psychiatric evaluation completed at Port Coquitlam Forensic Psychiatric Hospital.

In September he was arrested for the alleged kidnapping of Hebert.

In B.C. Provincial Court in Cranbrook, Hopley’s lawyer said his client’s mental illness would not be an issue in the court case.

Hopley is in custody at the Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre, and appeared at the hearing in the Cranbrook court by video link.

Hopley, who faces three charges related to the kidnapping of three-year-old Kienan Hebert in September, will have a bail hearing Dec. 19.

His lawyer, William Thorne, asked Judge Grant Sheard to set a judicial interim release hearing for Dec.19. The judge also ordered a publication ban on the evidence presented at next month’s bail hearing, including the psychiatric report.
