Skier from United States killed in avalanche near Golden
An avalanche near Golden has claimed the life of an American skier Friday.
At approximately 3:30 p.m. on January 6, Golden/Field RCMP received a report on an avalanche in Molars Bowl, just west of Golden.
It was reported that a group of back country skiers were caught in the avalanche and one person buried.
The person was dug out by members of the ski party and CPR was started.
Golden Search and Rescue attended the avalanche site by helicopter and extracted the buried skier.
The skier was flown directly to Golden General Hospital where doctors continued medical treatment. The skier ultimately succumb to his injures and was pronounced dead.
Investigation revealed the ski party was from the United States.
The name of the skier will not be released pending next of kin notification.
