Police are asking for witnesses to come forward if they saw Friday night’s car accident on Hwy 3A near Thrums, according to RCMP Cpl. John Ferguson.

“(On Jan. 13) at (about) 5:18 p.m., the Castlegar RCMP and West Kootenay Traffic Services responded to a two-car, head-on collision on Highway 3A, Thrums area,” he said. “A 2003 Ford Expedition driven by a 57-year-old female from Castlegar was eastbound on Highway 3a, and crossed the centre line and struck a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire driven by a 36-year-old female from Castlegar travelling west bound.   “The Pontiac driver suffered severe injures. The Ford Expedition driver was not injured,” he added.   “At this time the police are investigating the cause of this head-on crash.”   He said police would like anyone who saw the accident who has not already spoken to RCMP to contact the Castlegar detachment at 250-365-7721.   “The RCMP would like to thank the Tarry’s Fire Department for their prompt and professional service,” he said. “Thanks goes to all the motoring public who where patient while this horrific crash scene was investigated.”   Ferguson concluded by pointing out that both parties were wearing their seatbelts, which reduced the injuries.
