No one injured in truck vs train collision
No one was injured after a truck hit a train near Celgar this morning, according to Celgar manager of human resources Dean Gaudry.
Gaudry said the accident occurred just after 11 a.m., when heavy snow left a chip-truck driver unable to stop quickly enough to avoid a collision with the train.
“It was very slippery and he just couldn’t stop in time,” Gaudry said, adding there was minimal damage to the train. The truck saw more substantial damage, and will need to be professionally assessed.
“The important thing is, no one was hurt,” he said, adding that Celgar enjoyed an, “excellent response from the city”, with snowplows and sanding crews arriving straight away. “The entry point to the mill is open and there were no traffic back-ups along Arrow Lakes Drive.”
Castlegar RCMP Cpl. Dan Pollock said that, despite inclement weather, police only responded to one traffic call during the work day; a single-vehicle accident with no injuries.
