At approximately 4:40 p.m., Sunday RCMP was advised of an avalanche in the Ghost Peak area south of Revelstoke.

The slide broke and buried a backcountry skier. The remaining members of the group were able to locate the male via a beacon search and dug him out.

Due to the deteriorating weather conditions they were not able to remove the victim.

Further attempts this morning to attend to the scene were hampered by high winds. Once the weather and avalanche conditions are deemed safe to do so, Revelstoke SAR and RCMP officers will attend to the scene to remove the victim.

Names of the victims have not been released.
