The Castlegar Cultural Advisory Committee will be hosting a round table meeting on June 12, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Castlegar and District Recreation Complex, Selkirk Room.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss future objectives of the committee, what our vision is and possible actions we can take for our continued growth in culture.

The Cultural Advisory Committee provides the Castlegar and District Recreation Commission with advice and recommendations on strategic cultural development direction and related matters. The Committee also serves as a liaison function for organizations in the community that are engaged in the development and delivery of cultural programs and initiatives. Projects that have been identified and completed are the adoption of a cultural policy for the City of Castlegar; a cultural website designed to market cultural organizations in and around Castlegar, and; a Cultural A-Fair, which is an event we’ve run for two years to educate our community on the wealth of arts/culture/heritage we have and to create an opportunity to network with other organizations.

The Kootenay Festival, our newest project, is the now in its second year, giving residents of the East and West Kootenays and visitors to our area an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of cultures and artistic expression that exists in our region.

Great strides have been made for culture in our community, we want to continue to move forward and work together.
