Regional District of Central Kootenay officials will update media on the state of affairs at the NDCC pool Wednesday afternoon.

The management and directors will provide information on repairs that has closed the pool at the Nelson and District Community Complex since Monday.

Falling ceiling tiles forces closure of NDCC pool until further notice

The ceiling, not the sky, is falling in on the Nelson and District Community Complex pool causing immediate closure of the Regional District of Central Kootenay facility Monday afternoon said Joe Chirico.

“No one was injured but we are taking all precautions to ensure the public’s and staff’s safety,” Chirico, General Manager of Community Services, said in a written statement.

“Therefore, the RDCK is closing the pool until an assessment is done and the problem is fixed.”

Chirico said a 16’ x 4’ section of tiles fell from the false ceiling.

The public will be informed once the pool has re-opened.

Chirico apologizes on behalf of the RDCK to pool patrons for the inconvenience.

The rest of the facility, that houses a fitness center and arena, remains open for regular operation.
